Exposing yourself to new environments is a great way to kick-start and maintain your weight-loss journey. Being able to take in sun, fresh air, and the sounds of nature can help give you the boost that you need. Sometimes, staying inside of the home can make you feel trapped. By taking the opportunity to take in some sun, it can truly brighten your day. Sometimes it may be difficult to get out of the house if you don’t know where to go. The following are a list of fun and cost-effective places you can go it to get your mind on positive things as well as get your body in motion.

 

1.) Take a hike at Stone Mountain. This awesome infographic walks you through the awesome walking and hiking activities you can do in Stone Mountain park. Start with

2.) Experience the serenity of Amicalola Falls State Park.  An 8-mile (13 km) trail that winds past Amicalola Falls and leads to Springer Mountain, famous for being the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Amicalola Falls State Park also offers many hiking trails, a guest lodge, restaurant, cabins, a shelter for long distance Appalachian Trail hikers, a campground and access to the eco-friendly Len Foote Hike Inn.

 

3.) Go for a bike ride in Piedmont Park or just take a slow walk around the park to take in all of it’s beauty. Piedmont Park is an urban park in Atlanta, Georgia, located about 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Downtown, between the Midtown and Virginia Highland neighborhoods.

 

4.) Walk, bike, rollerblade, or skate the Atlanta Beltline.  You can also participate in an awesome free fitness class. Check the schedule here.

 

5.) Slide by the Silver Comet Trail. The Silver Comet Trail is located 13 miles northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. It's free of charge, and travels west through Cobb, Paulding, and Polk counties. This quiet, non-motorized, paved trail is for walkers, hikers, bicyclists, rollerbladers, horses, dog walkers, and is wheelchair accessible. Watch videos here.

 

6.) Experience a taste of downtown Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park. Centennial Olympic Park not only serves as a legacy of the 1996 Olympic Games, but is the center of a thriving tourist district with neighbors that include the College Football Hall of Fame, the Center for Civil & Human Rights, the World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center and Imagine It! The Children’s Museum. This downtown Atlanta park is an urban oasis offering an abundance of activities and things to do for visitors, families, convention attendees and locals.

 

7.) Meet great friends and build your support network by joining a Meet-Up walking group. You can learn more here

 

8.) Visit Arabia Mountain. Atlanta 3365 Family describes it as follows: “It’s a simple hike, only one mile out and back.  You’ll park at the trailhead at AWARE and follow the blue blaze to the base of the mountain.  Then, leave the blue blaze and follow the stones up the mountain to the top.  This time of year you will also see the beautiful yellow daisies that only grow within 60 miles of this area."-365 Atlanta Family

 

9.) Use your Fernbank Museum Membership for free entry into Fernbank Forest. “Explore more than 2 miles of paths winding through Fernbank Forest, a 65-acre old-growth forest. Though located just minutes from the bustling heart of Atlanta, Fernbank Forest offers an un-matched nature experience for all ages, allowing guests to craft their own experience, from a slow-and-steady stroll to a brisk walk.”-Fernbank Museum.
