8 Activities to Enjoy with Loved Ones This Year

Spending time with loved ones is a great way to lift your spirits as well as create long-lasting memories. Take a moment to think back to the memories that you cherish most. In most cases, the memory didn’t involve spending a lot of money, it may not have been in the most extravagant place, everyone may not have been dressed like a fashion icon but the common thread is that most positive memories usually involve those that you care about. The memories that make you smile provide a genuine source of familiarity and comfort. The following activities are going to primarily be around getting back to getting to know your loved ones. These 8 ideas can help you and your loved ones enjoy activities and make memories together.

  1. Establish a Fun Board Game Night. Pick out 2 board games, establish teams, make a few snacks and pick a loved one’s home to play the board games at. You can have small prizes for winning teams and take pictures of the champs. If you have loved ones that can’t make it, Go Live on Facebook for a small segment so that they can chime in as well. It will be worth the laughs and smiling faces.

  2. Have a Potluck. Potlucks are a great way to show off cooking skills and create a little friendly competition. Select a theme for the potluck and encourage attendees to bring a dish in alignment with the theme. Each participant gets to tell a funny story about their dish and you can even establish taste testers/judges. This will be a fun and cost effective way to have a relaxed dinner party.

  3. Host a Movie Night. Select a movie that is appropriate for all guests. Don’t worry about having enough seating. Allow those that are comfortable with sitting on the floor to sit on cozy blankets and the rest sit in chairs or on the couch. If you want to create something fun for the kids, try these homemade drive-in cars found on Pinterest.

  4. Meet up at the Beltline or a local park and go walking together. This is not only a great way to catch up but also a great way to exercise. Bring a few snacks and eat together at the end. Check out this list of fun and low cost places in Atlanta.

  5. Go on a Scavenger Hunt. Select places in the city within walking distance of each other and have participants answer questions associated with each location. Get competitive and have fun.

  6. Volunteer Together. Find an organization that you all are passionate about and volunteer together once per month. Build memories while helping others.

  7. Paint coffee mugs. Head over to Dollar Tree and grab a few white coffee mugs. Then pick up some sharpies and go to work. For detailed directions, check out this Pinterest Post.

  8. Visit the Woodruff Park Reading Room & Chess. The Woodruff Park Reading Room is an open-air space in the northern portion of Woodruff Park. In partnership with the Fulton County Library, carts are stocked with a selection of books, periodicals and newspapers, with readings and programs at lunchtime. Open Monday through Friday, April through October from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Play a game of pick-up chess.

  • Kids can play at the cool ATL playground.

These are just a few fun things to do together. Take advantage of the upcoming great weather and start to make new memories together!
